Description of Lake Matheson

Lake Matheson  Lake Matheson

Surrounded by rainforest water, Lake Matheson is sheltered from the wind giving it its majestic view. Probably the best time to come to lake is the morning then the mist is still visible over the water. Rising sun plays tricks as it passes through layers of water droplets in the air creating exiting show. Easiest way to get to the lake is to hike for 40- 45 minutes along Cook Flat Road from the Fox Glacier village that is situated in in 6 km (4 miles) from the lake. Full hike around the lake takes just over an hour.
