Description of Conch Bar Caves

Conch Bar Caves on Middle Caicos Island is a splendid underground formation in the heart of the jungle. The closest human settlement to natural caverns is a village of Conch Bar. In the ancient times Conch Bar Caves were used by Lucayan indigenous people. It was particularly useful during hurricanes, depressions and severe weather in general. The signs of their presence was re- discovered only in the late 19th century by accident. Local bats that live deep in Conch Bar Caves leave their droppings and lack of lights made it unsuitable for growth of plants. Thus Conch Bar Caves turned into a huge collection of pure fertilizer. Artefacts and signs of presence of Lucayan tribe was discovered in 1880's when local settlers started to remove fertilized soil from the cave for agricultural needs.
