History

The prehistory of the city dates back to the 18th century, when Catherine the Great granted the Orlov Counts, in gratitude for their help in accessing the throne, extensive Volga lands. One of the count's estates is located on the site of a modern city in the area of the future Privolzhskaya biofactory. At the same time, the villages of Russian, Mordovian and Chuvash Lipyagi were founded, which later became part of Novokuibyshevsk.

After the construction of the Samara-Zlatoust railway, Lipyagi station appears. In 1904, several mills operated in the area of the station, and a brick factory was founded. During the civil war at the beginning of the 20th century, bloody battles between the Bolsheviks and the White Czechs took place in the Lipyagi region. In 1932, near the station, Privolzhskaya Biofactory No. 6 began to work, which for many years produced biological products for the treatment and prevention of diseases of agricultural livestock.

In 1946, shortly after the end of the Great Patriotic War, the construction of the country's largest oil refinery at that time began near the Lipägi station. Initially, it was assumed that a settlement of oil refiners with a population of about 14 thousand people would be located next to it. However, the location turned out to be so advantageous that it was decided to develop the village and create a large industrial center. In September 1951, the first units of the refinery were put into operation, and on February 22, 1952, by the decision of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR, the r.p. Novo-Kuibyshevsky was transformed into the city of Novokuibyshevsk.

In 1951, Novokuybyshevsk CHPP-1 (NkTEC-1) was built to provide the refinery and a residential settlement with electric and thermal energy, which became one of the first stations in the country with high-pressure equipment with steam parameters of 90 atm. and 500 ° C. In 1957, the first large chemical enterprise of the Kuibyshev region was launched - the Kuibyshev Synthetic Alcohol Plant (KZSS, now part of PJSC Rosneft), which for many years was one of the leading producers of synthetic ethyl alcohol and phenol in the USSR and Russia. In connection with the growing demand for energy supply in 1962, NkTETs-2 was launched. In 1965, the Novokuybyshevsk  Petrochemical Plant (now part of PJSC Rosneft) was founded, the largest producer of monomers for synthetic rubber in Europe.

In 1992, the Novokuybyshevsk line included the settlements of the Mayak village council (Mayak settlement) with a population of 2.2 thousand people. In 2006, the Granny residential area, which previously belonged to Samara, was added to the city.
