Taganai National Park is a national park in the South Urals in
the Chelyabinsk region. It was created by the decree of the Council
of Ministers of the RSFSR No. 130 of 03/05/1991 "On the creation of
the Taganai National Park."
The territory of the Taganai
National Park covers the northern part of the middle-altitude
mountain ranges of the Southern Urals, which is a separate
mountainous knot, which on three sides passes into the plateaus and
further into the plain forest-steppe. The national park is located
in the western part of the Chelyabinsk region, 130 km from the
regional center and is adjacent to the border between Europe and
Asia. Administratively, the territory of the park is located within
two municipalities: the Zlatoust urban district and the Kusinsky
district. The territorial center of the park is the city of
Zlatoust, through which the automobile and railway lines of the
Chelyabinsk - Ufa - Moscow direction pass.
The origin of the toponym is associated with the oronym Taganay.
Taganay is translated from the Bashkir language as “stand of the moon”
(tagan - “stand” and ai - “moon”).
Toponymist G. E. Kornilov
believes that the word "Taganai" goes back to the Bashkir tyugan ai tau
- "mountain of the rising moon", "mountain of the young month".

south to north, and 10-15 km from west to east. The total area of
the park is 568 km² (56.8 thousand hectares).
The territory
of the park is surrounded by four municipalities, the administrative
centers of which are the cities of Zlatoust in the southwest, Kusa
in the west, Miass in the southeast and Karabash in the northwest.
Two roads pass through the territory: one on the south side,
with the Zlatoust - Miass connection, the second - with the
southwest, with the Zlatoust - Magnitka - Aleksandrovka route. The
density of the road and path network in the park is not high.
Mostly, these are traditional tourist trails, laid in the mountains
and intermountain valleys by many generations of travelers. The most
popular of them runs along the eastern slope of the Bolshoi Taganai
ridge. The forestry road network inherited from loggers, in most
cases only driving during dry seasons and in winter.

The national park
has a number of unique geographical features.
Otklitnoj greben
The second peak Big Taganay. It is located 16 km to the NNE from Zlatoust. The name was given for the characteristic comb-shaped outlines and the loud, multiple echo that occurs due to the reflection of sound from an almost vertical rocky wall. The height is 1155 m. The length of the rocky part is about 800 m, the relative height of the remnants from the foot of Otkliknoe to its top is 150 m. At the foot there is a spruce-fir forest, at the northern end there is a small plateau. From the top of the Otkliknoy ridge, a wide panorama of the Zlatoust Ural opens for several tens of kilometers. The outlines of the ridge from different points are peculiar: from the Two-headed Hill it resembles an ancient stegosaurus lizard, from Kruglitsa - a sea wave frozen on takeoff, from the "Mont Blanc" - an elongated scallop. Structurally and tectonically, Otkliknaya is a fragment of the western flank of the Taganay anticline with a steep dip (more than 50°) of layers broken by secant fractures into vertical blocks. The bedding of quartzites in blocks alternates with crystalline schists, less hard rocks, which are destroyed faster in the process of weathering. Shales, in addition, are much more plastic than quartzites due to the large presence of mica, which, together with reduced strength, leads to an increase in shear stress. Therefore, the eastern foot of the Otkliknoy ridge is so replete with huge blocks (weighing several tens of tons) of monolithic quartzites, torn off from the body of the mountain by the invisible force of weathering. Smaller schist weathering products are often buried under blocks of quartzites, and only minor accumulations of them are found at the eastern foot (in most cases hidden under soil deluvium). In addition to mica, shales contain garnet-almandine in the form of round grains, strongly ferruginated, staurolite and a small admixture of quartzite. Aventurine in the composition of quartzites is represented by all varieties found in Taganay. Fractures of tectonic origin are often filled with white, smoky, rose quartz. A steeply dipping tectonic fault is confined to the northeastern part of the foot of the Otkliknoy Ridge, which is the object of unloading underground fissure waters. There are three ascending springs here. Regarding the origin of the echo of the Responsive Comb, there is a folk legend cited by P. P. Paduchev in the essay “Russian Switzerland”. It says that as if many years ago in a cave at the foot of the Taganay ridge lived a fierce beast, indiscriminately devouring both foot and horsemen. But one day, a holy hermit passing by turned to God with a prayer for the destruction of the monster. The Lord heeded the elder's prayer and destroyed the beast with a stone block, leaving, however, his voice as a memory for the edification of people.
Chernaya skala/ Black rock
One of the northern peaks of the Nazminsky Range. It is located 12 km north of Zlatoust and 4.4 km west of Dvukhlavaya Sopka. Height 853 m. Composed of snow-white quartzites. At the top there is a rocky ridge stretching for more than 200 m in the direction from south to north. The eastern slope drops steeply and is difficult to access. In the western part of the peak there is a small plateau, to which a path about 1 km long leads from the pass (altitude 770 m) on the Nazminskaya road (Zlatoust-Magnitogorsk). The name Black Rock was originally associated with the composition of its constituent rocks - micaceous schists and black amphibolites. However, the dominant rock of the exposed part of the rock is snow-white quartzites, with thin layers of dark-colored crystalline schists, which are not able to visually "blacken" the appearance of white stone. A more plausible interpretation of the name of the Black Rock is given by local residents. In the 20-30s of the last century, near a lonely rock surrounded by dense fir-spruce forests, the Bashkirs organized a secret point for the sale of stolen horses. In the strictest secrecy, local men passed from mouth to mouth the time and place of gathering on the "black market", which then transformed into the name of the rock itself. Currently, the Black Rock serves as a venue for traditional bard song festivals “Song for the Clouds” (since the 1970s).
Semibratka/ Seven brothers
A group of rocky outcrops.
They are located within the Ural Range,
one kilometer north of the Urzhumka railway station.
Icyl
The mountain, the southern end of the ridge of the same name, 26 km NE of Zlatoust. Altitude 1068 m above sea level It has a typical comb shape. There are numerous kurumniks on the slopes. Composed of quartzites and crystalline schists. Minerals include garnet, staurolite, schorl. From the top of Itsyla, a majestic view of the Taganay ranges and lakes (Argazi and Turgoyak) opens up.
Dalny Taganai/ Far Taganai
The northernmost and most extensive peak of the B. Taganay ridge. It is located 26 km northeast from Zlatoust. Height 1146 m. From the southern ridge of the ridge, Dalniy Taganay is separated by a wide intermountain valley - the Big Log. Consists of three combs. The western ridge (Rysiny ravine) is composed of Proterozoic crystalline schists and gneisses. Its northern part is surrounded by relic birch-spruce forests with rare rock outcrops. To the south, the forest gradually gives way to tundra vegetation, and where the Rysinyi ravine adjoins the tundra, the exposure of ancient shales reaches its maximum. Here, on a flat plateau, dark gray remnants are scattered everywhere. The plateau itself is covered with mountain tundra (blueberry, blueberry-sedge, rush-lichen). Among the relic plants there are alpine arctous, viviparous mountaineer. In the center of the peak there is a high-mountain meteorological station "Taganai-gora", opened on August 20, 1932 (liquidated in 2005). The central ridge is a huge quartz outcrop at least a kilometer long. Along its eastern foot, there is close contact with crystalline schists. Recently, the ridge has been referred to by tourists as the Dragon Mountain, with its jagged peak resembling the back of a monster. The Eastern ridge (“Camel”) is a conical mountain at the eastern edge of the tundra landscape, consisting of the same shales that, in addition to mica and quartz, contain large (up to 3 cm) almandine garnets and small staurolite crystals in Far Taganay. A notable feature of Far Taganay is strong winds: the average annual wind speed here reaches 10.3 m/s, the maximum is over 40 m/s. With its six-kilometer spur, elongated to the NE, Dalny Taganay smoothly passes into the Yurma Range.
Middle Taganay/ Sredny Taganai
The shortest ridge (2.5 km) in the
system of the Taganay mountain junction, sheltered by a median parallel
between the Small and Big Taganay, with a maximum height of the northern
peak of 959 m, which visually does not differ from the other two peaks
of the ridge located to the south. The rocky ridge of the Middle Taganay
is interrupted by fragments of low relief, in which areas with birch
crooked forests and tundra alternate. The slopes, above the forest
border, are completely covered with placers in combination with juniper
"pillows", curtains of low-growing spruce, fir, larch and birch. In the
southern part of the ridge, placers pass into a stone "river", which
merges with the Bolshaya Kamennaya "river", just north of its "mouth".
Climbing the Middle Taganay - this small junkie framed by the
powerful Taganay cascade - is not so easy. Multi-ton blocks of kurums
are like guardians of the three-headed ridge, its unkemptness, the
purity of breath of relict firs and firs, the lingonberry shower of
sphagnum crevices and the unshakable beauty that opens from the top of
the ridge, “humiliated” to the absolute mark, the smallest of all the
peaks of the great Taganay brotherhood. But isn't this the charm of the
middle - only from here you can see the distant edge of the foggy
Taganay country in four horizons.
Small Taganay/ Maly Taganai
Eastern ridge of the Taganay mountain range. It starts from the
northeastern outskirts of Zlatoust. The total length is about 11 km. It
extends from SSW to NNE. The highest point is the northern peak (1033m
above sea level). the southern and northern parts of the ridge are
elevated rocky ridges, on the western and central slopes there are
kurumniks. The central part is an alpine plateau, overgrown with spruce
and birch forests. In the upper third of the ridge there are alpine
meadows with thickets of alpine mountaineer. The eastern slope descends
into the river valley. M. Tesma. It is composed of quartzites,
crystalline and mica schists. According to some sources, there were
silver mines in the southern part of the range in the 18th century. The
southern peak of the ridge is known among the local population as Mount
Shabash (859 m), probably so named because the main road to the mowing
of the eastern slope of M. Taganay passes here, and when they got here,
people stopped to rest and take a sabbath.
Yurma
The northernmost range of the western chain of Ural ranges. It starts 55 km NNE from Zlatoust, stretches almost exactly along the meridian from north to south for about 15 km. Altitudes from 640 m in the north to 1003 m in the south (Yurma). Slopes - in fir, spruce forests, swamps, forming impassable places. It represents the lowest part of the park, bordering on the hilly-ridged relief of the north-east of the Chelyabinsk region. Leveling surfaces are common within the ridge, giving a rounded appearance to the watersheds. These low mountains are also characterized by single flat-topped ridges separated by valley-like depressions. The intermountain ravine Bolshoi Log connects the southern tip of Yurma and the northern spurs of Bolshoi Taganay with a chain of low hills, with areas of dark coniferous broad-leaved relict forests, the easternmost in the Urals area. Norway maple, mountain elm, small-leaved linden are found here. In the Holocene, broad-leaved forests, apparently, occupied almost the entire area now covered with spruce-fir taiga. With climate change, they were forced out and survived only in tracts with a milder microclimate - the Klenovaya, Lipovaya and Dedurikha mountains, where they grow at an altitude of about 600 m and are confined to granite-gneiss outcrops.
Protopop
Mountain on the right bank of the river. Right Magnitogorsk, 2 km east of the village. Magnitka, 18 km north of Zlatoust. Height 807 m.
Mother-in-law's tongue/ Teschin yazyk
Mother-in-law's tongue is the name of the observation deck on the Lower Path. 3 km from the city of Zlatoust
Big Stone River/ Bloshaya Kamennaya Reka
The largest placer is
located between the Bolshoi and Sredny Taganay ridges and stretches from
the NNE to the South-Southwest for 5-6 km, reaching a width of 20 to 250
and 700 m.
Great Kialim Swamp
It is located between the northern extremity of
the Maly Taganayi ridge and the southern foothills of the Itsyl ridge,
from the east it is bounded by the western slopes of the watershed Ural
ridge. The area is about 36 sq. km. It is the second largest of the
largest swamps in the Chelyabinsk region. It is located in a large
depression of tectonic origin, which is a kind of oval bowl with a large
axis elongated from south to north. The Big Kialim River flows along the
major axis of this giant bowl. In the center, the depression of the
Great Moss Swamp drops to 620-630 m, in the west, south and east it
rises to 750 m, in the north it is cut by the B. Kialima channel.
Bolshoye Mokhovoe is a complex of upland and transitional bogs with
arctic-boreal flora. Relics of the Pleistocene glaciation era, unique
for our places, grow here: low-growing pine forest, squat birch,
cloudberry, princess, blueberry, small-fruited cranberry, etc. The
animal world is diverse. Most of the species inhabiting the park are
represented here. Of the birds, in addition to upland species (woodcock,
hazel grouse, capercaillie), on migratory flights there are black stork,
gray crane, snowy owl, ducks nest. Elk, brown bear, wolf, marten
(weasel, ermine, marten), hares are common. In recent years, the
appearance of river beavers, probably the West Siberian subspecies, has
been noted. In the diet of Kialim beavers, birch plays an important
role, less often willow; gnaws of coniferous young growth were noted.
Type of dwelling - holes, dams are not built. The living conditions of
the Kialim beavers cannot be classified as favorable: poor food supply,
high floods, after a dry autumn, the B. Kialim River may freeze to the
bottom. These reasons determine the unstable state of the population,
sometimes lonely nomadic individuals are found far from traditional
habitats (in 2003, a lone beaver settlement was noted in the fire pond
of the Taganay forestry on the outskirts of Zlatoust). In some sources,
the Great Moss Swamp is called Taganaysky, on the topographic map of
1983 it is designated as the Kialimskaya Pad tract. P.P. Paduchev in the
essays "Russian Switzerland" mentions that in the swamp region in the
19th century. gold was mined by local miners.
Akhmatova mine
The Akhmatovskaya mineral mine is located 3 km
south-southwest of the village of Magnitka in the Southern Urals on the
crest of a small flat ridge in the Taganay National Park. The mine has
been known since 1811. It got its name from the name of the managers of
the Kusinsky plant Akhmatovs.
Two large workings, elongated in
the latitudinal direction, are connected by a series of small pits, each
of which is surprisingly similar in its mineralogical manifestations.
Blue marble, honey-yellow garnet, and serpentine with a silky sheen are
found here. The largest, eastern working of the mine is richest in
minerals.
Academician N.I. Koksharov discovered more than 30
minerals from this mine, and in the mineralogical collections of museums
in Russia (Mining Institute, Moscow University, St.
The
extraction of minerals from this mine was carried out throughout the
19th century. Since 1981, the mine has had the status of a geological
monument of nature, and the extraction of minerals in it is prohibited.
Currently, Akhmatova mine is an open-air museum. You can get to it
from the city of Zlatoust on the way to the village of Magnitka.
Valley of Tales/ Dolina skazok
The Valley of Fairy Tales (locally
known as Sand Hills) is a saddle between Otkliknye Ridge and Kruglitsa
(Big Taganay Ridge). A uniquely beautiful area of a subalpine stunted
spruce forest with clearings of berries (lingonberries, blueberries,
crowberries), mountain grasses and juniper elfin, with numerous bizarre
remnants composed of sugar-like quartzites. The Valley of Fairy Tales is
located in the zone of past intensive tectonic movements. Grains of
quartz, weakly held together by a cementing substance, during several
geological epochs, experiencing friction against each other, acquired a
slightly rounded shape and almost lost cement. In a relatively calm
time, the rock was subjected to physical weathering and took on
mattress-like forms in rock outcrops, and the weathering material in the
form of snow-white quartz sand was deposited along the slopes of the
saddle, concentrating today on narrow paths trodden by man. Hence the
old local name - Sand Hills. Valley of Tales this place is called by
tourists for the abundance of remnants, sometimes resembling various
fairy-tale characters.
Three brothers/ Tri brata
A group of remnant rocks located in the
Big Log - a wide swampy intermountain valley between Kruglitsa and
Dalniy Taganay at an altitude of 750-780 m, 4-5 km NNE from Kruglitsa.
They are three pillar-like remnants 30-40 m high (hence the name),
located not far from each other. Composed of coarse-medium-grained
two-mica (biotite, muscovite) two-feldspar granites with garnet and
magnetite, penetrated by numerous veins of morion and rauchtopaz. In the
same area, within a radius of up to a kilometer, there are two more
smaller remnants, and two kilometers to the west, the last two granite
pillars stand completely apart. The absolute age of 300-330 million
years has been determined for the three-brotherly rocks of the
granitoids type.
Mont Blanc
It is located on the watershed
isthmus connecting the Small and Middle Taganay ranges. It is located
15.5 km to the northeast from the center of Zlatoust. Height 1025 m. It
is a rocky ridge about 680 m long. At the top there is a small flat area
surrounded by rocky ledges of snow-white quartzite, from which one of
the most picturesque panoramas of the Taganay mountain range opens - all
the significant peaks of Taganay are visible from here. The foot and
slopes of the mountain are occupied by dark coniferous taiga with an
undergrowth of viburnum, mountain ash and honeysuckle. "Mont Blanc" is a
typical habitat for bear, elk, wolf, lynx and wild boar. The name was
given as a joke by the locals and reminds of the famous mountain range
and the mountain of the same name in the Western Alps (4807 m).
Two-headed hill Feathers/ Perya
The southernmost peak of the
Bolshoi Taganay ridge. It is located 13 km to the NNE from Zlatoust. The
name was given by the researcher of the Southern Urals V.P. Sementovsky
for the characteristic splitting of the top of the hill in two. On the
southern and southwestern slopes of the Two-headed hill there are alpine
meadows, birch crooked forests, thickets of alpine mountaineer and
blueberries. On the southern slope is the so-called Climbing wall, used
by climbers as a training ground. The southern peak of the hill is
called "Feathers" for the characteristic shapes of the rocks that make
it up. Its height is 1034 m. The northern peak reaches a height of 1041
m. It is an arcuate ridge, elongated in a southeast direction. The
slopes are covered with numerous placers. The top consists of numerous
terraces, rocky walls and crevices. Tourists call this peak Lamb
foreheads. At the foot of the Two-headed Hill there are numerous
springs, among which the most famous is the White Key on the
southeastern slope. The western and southern slopes of the hill descend
into the valley of the Bolshaya Tesma River. Vostochny - into a
relatively narrow meridional valley separating the Bolshoy and Sredny
Taganay ranges. The Dvukhlavaya Sopka is composed of white quartzites,
with lenticular segregations of aventurine in the total mass of the
rock. In the 19th century on the southeastern slope of Dvuglavaya, this
ornamental stone was being developed. From two blocks found here, vases
were made in Yekaterinburg, which are exhibited in the Hermitage and the
Pavlovsk Museum-Palace near St. Petersburg.
Two-headed hill Lamb foreheads/ Barnie Lbi (northern peak)
The
northern peak of the Two-headed Sopka reaches a height of 1041 m and is
an arcuate ridge, elongated in a southeasterly direction. The slopes are
covered with numerous stone taluses, and the peak itself consists of
terraces, rocky walls and crevices. Modern tourists call this peak
"Sheep's foreheads", and local residents call it the Right Side of
Taganay. At its eastern foot there are several springs, bearing the
common name Rattlesnakes.
Mitkiny rocks/ skaly
The Mitkiny Rocks are a rocky ridge between
the Two-headed Sopka and the Otkliknoy Ridge. The height of the remnants
is about 1020 m. The place has several other names - Three Sisters,
Vshivaya Gorka.
Kruglitsa
The central peak of the Bolshoi Taganay ridge, the
highest point (1178m) of the entire Taganay mountain range. It got its
name from its characteristic rounded shape. The top of the Kruglitsa is
called the Bashkir hat for its resemblance to the Turkic headdress. The
mountain is composed of white, pink, cherry quartzites with the
inclusion of aventurine, sometimes massive, but more often the same
banded-spotted structure as in other places of Taganay. At the eastern
foot of Kruglitsa there is a tourist shelter "Taganay", from which a
3-kilometer hiking trail goes to the top of the mountain. However, the
ascent to the top is quite difficult, since in its upper third Kruglitsa
is almost completely covered with stone scree-kurums, which are not safe
to move along. The slopes of the mountain are thickly overgrown with
creeping junipers and islands of undersized firs. The northern shoulder
of the mountain, which is almost 100 m lower than the main peak, is a
flat plateau covered with blueberry tundra. Interestingly, the value of
atmospheric pressure at the height of Kruglitsa is 100 mm lower than
above sea level, and the water at this height boils already at 96 ° С.
sunny days create the effect of the mountain swaying. The sun, heating
the stones, entrains moisture from the cracks with its heat, the air
becomes transparent, easily mobile, and then it seems that the mountain
is about ready to break away from its foot.
Length: 4.0 km
Duration: 3 hours 30 minutes
The ecological
trail "Journey through Europe and Asia" passes within the rocky spur of
the Ural Range in its western part in the area of the tract Seven
Brothers or Semibratka.
Why was this place named so? The number
seven, which is part of many toponyms, as well as Russian proverbs and
sayings, as a rule, denotes an indefinite set, therefore the toponym
Seven brothers (Semibratka) can be conditionally interpreted as “Many
rocks” (remnants).
The route consists of 13 thematic sections and
two viewing points on the tops of rocky remains, equipped with metal
ladders. At the beginning of the trail there is a cozy gazebo, where the
guide will tell you about the history of the creation of the Taganay
National Park. Further the path goes along the western foot of the
rocks. The guide will introduce you to the history of the development
and restoration of the forests of the Zlatoust Urals, with the
peculiarities of their growth in harsh mountainous conditions and
survival during geological processes (landslides, earthquakes), traces
of which can be seen here. In the middle of the trail, in a gazebo where
you can relax after the first 2.5 km, we will talk about the role of
specially protected areas in the ecology of the region. Then the trail
turns and goes along the eastern foot of the rocks. On the observation
deck from the top of the Fifth Brother, an unforgettable panorama of the
Taganay mountain range in the west and wooded landscapes of the spurs of
the Ural Range in the east opens up. On the second observation deck from
the top of the First Brother, the view of the southern spurs of the
Ural-tau - the borders of Europe and Asia - complements the same
panoramas.
The tour along the entire length of the trail is
complemented by information about local attractions, which include a
stone birch, an aventurine boulder the size of a house, a burl birch, a
medicinal aspen forest, fauna and flora on the border of two continents,
and much more.
Length: 10.0 km
Duration: 4-5 hours
Purpose of the hike: to see
the Big Stone River - the largest stone placer in the world.
The
Bolshaya Kamennaya River is located between the Bolshoi and Sredny
Taganay ranges. A heap of stone blocks weighing 9-10 tons stretched for
6 km in length, reaching a width of 200 meters, and at times
"overflowing" up to 500 meters. Under the "channel" of ancient stone
streams at a depth of 4-6 meters, you can hear the sound of real
mountain streams.
The Big Stone River begins its course from the
slopes of the mountains, at first in the form of small stone streams,
which gradually merge into one, finally turning into a continuous stone
stream. The “river” is composed mainly of aventurine of various colors,
the local name of which is taganaite or golden sparks.
There is
no vegetation, except for lichens, on the stone river. The only
exceptions are isolated pines over a hundred years old.
In order
to admire this unearthly landscape, you need to walk from the Central
Manor of the Taganay National Park along the Lower Path 5 km to the
Veseliy Klyuch parking lot, located on the banks of the Bolshaya
Kamennaya River, from where a magnificent view of the Two-headed Hill
opens.
The trail has a natural unpaved surface and is swampy in
places. Halfway across the river Bolshaya Tesma, which can be crossed
both by bridge and ford. And immediately after the bridge goes to the
right. Throughout the path, the trail passes under the canopy of the
forest, sometimes leaving on open glades.
The participants of the
trip will enjoy the unique view of the Two-headed Hill on the "shore" of
the Bolshaya Kamennaya River, walk along the adventurine waves and
forever leave this majestic creation of nature in their memory.

shelter appeared. Here you can stop for the night, and in the morning

to the Valley of Fairy Tales winds along the scree of the southern slope
of the mountain, then the path leads into the realm of almost untouched
nature.

And finally, the shelter "Rattle Key", where you can stay for the
night or after resting, continue on your way to the Central Estate of
the Park, to which you go another 8 km along the Upper Path, crossing
streams, kurumniks, but already without lifts. But if you have 1-2 hours

Length: 65.0 km
Duration: 3-4 days
Hiking multi-day route
with a length of 65 km and a duration of 3 to 4 days. The purpose of the
hike is to visit the relic zones of the high-mountain tundra of Far
Taganay and Itsyl and the historical site of the former weather station
"Taganai-gora", the maximum height on the route is 1108 meters above sea
level.
A visit to Far Taganay will be the highlight of your
journey through the pristine nature of the Taganay National Park. The
route starts from the Central Manor of the Park and passes along the
Lower Trail, one of the main tourist trails of the Park. Then it passes
along the Bolshaya Kamennaya River, crossing it twice. 9 km from the
beginning of the path on the trail there is a tourist camp "Pisaniy
Kamen" with a source of drinking water, where you can rest before
continuing the path, and make a solid halt at the Taganay shelter, built
before the creation of the Park. For almost the entire length of the
route, the trail passes along the Old Kialim road with the remains of
old gates through wetlands and natural rocky surfaces. After passing
another 8 km from the wooden huts of the Taganay shelter, the trail
leads the traveler to the Kialim cordon, a former coal-burning
settlement.
Having settled on the cordon on the banks of the
Bolshoy Kialim River, you can climb Mount Itsyl, whose name from the
Bashkir language means "eternal wind". The path leading to the east
immediately gains steepness, winding along the kurumniks in the near-top
part, and then completely disappears. And the next day there is an
opportunity to see with your own eyes the unique and enchanting beauty
of the mountain tundra. The ascent to the top of the Dalniy Taganay
mountain is not difficult, but protracted - 5 km. Here, as the pines and
birches rise, they become lower and lower, interspersed with juniper and
gradually disappear altogether. And yet, due to the lack of forest
cover, you can watch stunning sunsets and sunrises on Dalny. At the very
top stands the building of the former meteorological station
"Taganai-gora", which still gives shelter to tired travelers.
Having descended from the mountain, you can return to the cordon or
continue the excursion to the stone remains of the Three Brothers - a
granite chronicle 300 million years old.
After spending the night
at the Kialim cordon in the morning, we return along the same path, and
if there is time and energy left, we can climb the highest peak of the
Taganay mountainous country, Kruglitsa, or walk along the waves of the
Bolshaya Kamennaya River.
Following the route “To the Eternal
Wind”, you will pass along the Bolshaya Kamennaya River, cross the
Bolshaya Tesma and Kialim rivers, climb the Itzyl and Dalniy Taganay
mountains, admire the mountain relic tundra, visit the Taganay Gora
weather station, and the Eternal Wind it will take away from you all
gloomy thoughts.
