South of Moscow is a part of Moscow from the city center to the MKAD
in the southern sector of the capital. From the South-West of Moscow,
the conditional border runs along the Warsaw Highway and the eastern
border of Bitsevsky Park. The south is separated from the South-East of
Moscow by the Moscow River in its lower course.
In most cases,
when leaving the center of the capital and going to the southern
districts of the city, tourists or guests of the capital go to see two
amazing museums and reserves. In the first case, we are talking about
the Kolomenskoye Open-air Museum, which is also included in the UNESCO
World Heritage List, in the other, about the Tsaritsyno Palace and Park
ensemble, which not so long ago, through the efforts of restorers, rose
in its glory.
The territory of the South of
Moscow largely coincides with the Southern Administrative District
(South Administrative District), established in 1991. The following
administrative districts of the Southern Administrative District are
located in the South of Moscow:
Biryulyovo East and Biryulyovo
West
Brateevo
Danilovsky district
Donskoy district
Zyablikovo
Moskvorechye-Saburovo
Nagatino-Gardeners
Nagatinsky
Zaton
Nagorny district
Orekhovo-Borisovo Severnoye and
Orekhovo-Borisovo Yuzhnoye
Tsaritsyno
Chertanovo North, Chertanovo
Central and Chertanovo South
Kolomenskoye is the
residence of the Moscow tsars near Moscow, marked by the tent
Resurrection Church, one of three Moscow sites included in the UNESCO
lists.
Tsaritsyno is a neo—Gothic palace complex, built by order
of Catherine II Bazhenov and Kazakov, the leading architects of the
second half of the XVIII century. Like Kolomenskoye, it is a unique
architectural monument and one of the best city parks.
1 Church of the Life-Giving Trinity on Borisovsky ponds , Kashirskoye
highway, 61a (Domodedovo). An Orthodox church built in the early 2000s
in memory of the millennial anniversary of the baptism of Rus. The
temple is made in the neo—Byzantine style, the domes are azure in color.
It is a single-domed cruciform building with four chapels.
2 The
Church of St. Nicholas in Saburov, Kashirskoye highway, 59, building 4.
Orthodox church, an object of cultural heritage of the Russian
Federation. It was built at the end of the XVI century, then dismantled
in 1861, 4 years later it was rebuilt and restored in the 90s of the
20th century.
3 Church-chapel of the Icon of the Mother of God
"Troeruchitsa" , Kashirskoye highway, vl. 63, building 2 (Domodedovo).
The church was consecrated in 2004. There is a wooden carved iconostasis
in the temple, made in the Greek city of Thessaloniki.
4 Monument
to Musa Jalil, 2 Musa Jalil Street (600 m southwest of Borisovo). A
modern monument located near the Gorodni River. Opened in August 2012,
it is dedicated to the famous Tatar poet. It is illuminated at night.
5 Chapel Temple and the Temple of the Beheading of the Head of John the Baptist in Brateev, Klyuchevaya str. 18-a (Alma-Ata). A complex of two temples located near the Gorodnya River. Both, unfortunately, are modern, but they look a bit antique. Temples were built on the site of a wooden church erected in the 17th century and destroyed in the 1920s, and on the site of a stone temple destroyed after the 1940s. The chapel (pictured on the left) was built in the mid-1990s. The Church of John the Baptist (on the right) was built in the early 2010s under the program for the construction of 200 modular churches in Moscow and was consecrated in September 2012. It is a stone single-domed tent church with a height of several floors of the house.

Mobile communications in the south of Moscow, as in the whole city,
are represented by four mobile operators: three of the GSM standard:
MTS, Beeline and MegaFon, as well as Tele2 operator (since the end of
2015). SkyLink provides cellular communication services based on the
CDMA standard. These telecom operators cover the territory of the south
of the capital quite well. The situation in the subway is worse. Here
you can see the coverage at stations and stages for MTS, Beeline and
MegaFon.
There are quite a few points in the south of Moscow
where you can get free Internet access. As a rule, these are large
shopping and entertainment complexes. In addition, Wi-Fi is available in
such popular fast food chains as McDonald's and KFC.
Wi-Fi is
available on the Zamoskvoretskaya, Lublinsko-Dmitrovskaya, Kakhovskaya
and Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya lines of the Moscow Metro.
Most
fixed-line telephone numbers in the south have the code +495.
In general, the problems in the South of Moscow are the same as in
the capital as a whole.
The transport aspect is particularly
acute. According to statistics from the city of Moscow, there are more
car accidents here than in any other sector of the capital. From 7 to
11-12 o'clock and from 17-18 to 20-21 o'clock the main routes
(Varshavskoye highway, Kashirskoye highway, Lipetsk Street, Proletarsky
Avenue, Andropov Avenue and to a lesser extent Borisovskie Prudy Street)
they are blocked by traffic jams. The introduction of dedicated lanes
for public transport smoothed the problem, but did not solve it.
Therefore, in the south, it is preferable to use a reliable mode of
transport — the subway (especially in the period from 9:30 to 11 and
from 19:30 to 21, when there are still traffic jams on the roads, but
there are already significantly fewer people in the subway than during
rush hour).
Naturally, you need to keep a close eye on your
belongings, especially in markets and near railway and metro stations.
It cannot be said that the South of Moscow is something special in a
criminal sense. But walking alone in parks after sunset (especially for
young people) is not a very good idea. Not all places are patrolled by
the police, especially in the south of Moscow. It should be noted that
this area is highly attractive for, so to speak, people of non—Slavic
appearance (due to its geographical location and relative cheapness of
housing) - this must be taken for granted.
Finally, it is worth
noting that the South is the most populated sector of the city, with
about 1.5 million people living in it.
