Description of Shebekino

Shebekino is located in the Belgorod Region, the administrative center of the Shebekinsky District. A small town near the border with Ukraine, lying on the coast of the picturesque Nezhegoli River. The Shebekino-Pletenevka border crossing is a good alternative to the ever-loaded MAPP Nekhoteyevka-Goptovka on the Moscow-Simferopol highway.

History of Shebekino

In 1654, the city-fortress Nezhegolsk, which was part of the Belgorod defensive line, was built on the site of a modern Shebekino suburb. The date of Shebekino’s appearance is considered to be the year 1713, when it was first marked on Russian maps. The settlement received its name by the name of the first landowner, who settled his serfs here and founded a settlement - Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Dmitrievich Shibeko, who was one of the participants of the Battle of Poltava (between Russian forces under Peter the Great and Swedish forces under command of Charles XII), who bought 160 quarters of the land from a nobleman N. Maslova and settled his peasants on the right bank of the river Nezhegol.

Shebekino city status was assigned in 1938. Located on the Nezhegol River near the confluence of the Koren River, 7 km from the Seversky Donets River, 32 km from the regional center.

The main attractions are in the vicinity: these are monuments of history (ancient settlements) and nature.
